Meaning of “Permanent High School” by The Voidz

The Voidz’s “Permanent High School” does not appear to be based on high school per se. Rather it alludes to how the singer apparently perceived that experience. And in that regard, he does not speak highly of this educational institution. For instance, he presents it as one where basically lies are told in the name of protecting the elite. Moreover, there are “snakes” throughout. But not all of these snakes are lethally dangerous but still have the tendency to “bite” victims “just for fun”. And overall the participants in this establishment are “depressed”, “stressed” and oppressed”.

Since this track is actually named “Permanent High School”, the implication is that these experiences were not just relegated to the singer’s teenage years. Thus the same deceptions, abuse and personal issues which highlighted that time in his life have persisted to the present day.

Overall meaning of this song

So overall this track reads as one in which the singer is critical of the society he lives in, in general. In contrast to the imagery used in the song’s music video, his perception of high school is not all fun and games. And the same way he views that experience is similar to how he perceives his present life.
