Cheryl’s “Let You” Lyrics Meaning
“Let You” is a female empowerment song based on the industry-standard theme of overcoming an exploitative romance. The lover Cheryl sings about was not abusive but did use her, as in only caring about his own emotional and physical needs while neglecting hers. And in response to this mistreatment, the singer was basically afraid to speak up, playing the quiet role throughout. Well now that has changed.
But what makes this song unique is that the singer is not placing the blame on her lover, even though he obviously is not an ideal partner. Rather she takes the blame, or as the title implies she acknowledges that she “let” him treat her in such a way. Making such a statement seems to serve a dual purpose of not only reaffirming control over her own life but also to prevent him from getting too big-headed, thinking that he was in control.
So now apparently, even though she never states it outright, Cheryl is ready to move on pass this relationship.

Is this song about Liam Payne?
Fans have speculated that “Let You” is actually about Cheryl’s ex-boyfriend, British singer Liam Payne. However, she has stated that such is not the case, but rather it seems to be a culmination of her past romances.
