“She’s a God” by Neck Deep

Neck Deep’s lead singer Ben Barlow describes “She’s a God” as a song in which ‘a relationship is being compared to a theology’. And that of course would be an accurate description, though perhaps more to the point it is a track in which he equates his love to that of a religious devotee. In other words, he worships his lover, right down to the minutiae of her action, such as seeing her arise in the morning and getting ready for the day.

Thus he compares his feelings for her or the lady herself to specific aspects of different religious experiences – “Madonna”, “nirvana” and “dharma”. This is his way of saying that he loves and esteems her above the rest of mankind. Indeed he considers their relationship to be ordained by heaven.
