“Against the Wall” by K. Forest
According to K. Forest, “Against the Wall” is supposed to be premised on the idea of the best coming out in an individual, particularly himself, when his “back [is] against the wall” – as in when the odds are stacked against him. And maybe in some sort of roundabout way, such is the underlying theme of this tune. But in all honesty it reads for the most part like your standard braggadocio hip-hop/R&B song. For instance, Forest references how certain individuals, i.e. his opps, would love nothing more than to see him fail. He also brings up the fact that he’s now getting paid more than in times prior. Also he gives a shoutout to his enjoyment of “blunts and mixing alcohol”.
Or in summation, there is nothing present in the lyrics specifying how exactly his back is “against the wall” nor how he reacts to such a predicament. Rather what we walk away from this track understanding is that he is an artist who is making it. So looking at this song from a lyrical perspective, it can basically be classified as one in which the singer is introducing himself to the world so the speak, as in letting the audience know certain aspects of his lifestyle.
