“So Will I” by Ben Platt

The addressee of “So Will I” will be someone who is very close to the heart of the singer.  More to point, said individual is going through a very-depressing time in life. This song was written within the specific context of the 2020 pestilence, which can be classified as a situation which has caused considerable anxiety amongst masses of people. And basically, what Ben Platt is telling this individual is that no matter what he or she faces, he will be there by their side. Or more specifically, this person is apparently going through certain changes which, due to their unpredictability, has him or her concerned.  But the singer is letting this individual know that wherever the road leads, he or she has him as a steady, supportive companion. Or as poetically stated in the song, wherever this person may find him or herself, “so will” the singer be there.

So conclusively, this song is centered on the singer’s undying commitment to the addressee. He is reminding this person that even in the midst of uncertainty, there still remains certain constants, like the sun rising in the morning. And one of those constants is that the singer will always be by his or her side.
