“Butterflies” by Abe Parker

Butterflies is a term which, colloquially speaking, connotes the sensation of being anxious. However, this is not true anxiety we’re talking about per se but more akin to, say being nervous on the verge of speaking in front of a crowd.

This term is also widely used in a romantic context, to refer to like that tingling feeling you get in your stomach during the early stages of a relationship, when you’re around the other person but before you really get to know them that well. And it is that form of “butterflies” which Abe Parker is alluding to in this piece.

The second verse does imply that maybe in this case, Abe and the addressee, i.e. the apple of his eye, are already well acquainted on the romantic tip. But either way, he is trying to ascertain her feelings in regards to their relationship, which would once again imply that said union is in its early stages.

Overall, the thesis sentiment would be that he is indeed in love. So the questions contained in the song serve the purpose of finding out whether or not this person truly feels the same.
