“If I Knew You In A Past Life” by Morgxn
Although there isn’t a plethora of information readily available on Morgxn, one thing that can be ascertained about his character is that he is a bit peculiar. For instance, this song was actually inspired by the artist consulting a prominent metaphysicist named Marcella Knoll, engaging in what he referred to as a “past life meditation”. And likewise, the lyrics are also a bit out there.
Well the real challenge isn’t making sense of what’s being said per se but rather trying to put it all together. The first two verses serve the purpose of the vocalist encouraging the addressee to ‘hold his (or her) head up high’ and to practice confidence amidst the challenges and uncertainties of life.
But where the confusion comes in is in what appears to be the bridge or third verse. Here, the vocalist asserts that he actually knew the address “in a past life”. This is a realization he came to when the two of them “passed by”.
But one reasonable postulation as to how this claim connects with what has been put forth prior is the said assertion being a fancy way of the vocalist saying that he knows the addressee possesses the inner qualities to make it in the world. In other words, he recognizes the addressee’s strengths and potential due to actually knowing this person beforehand, albeit in a former life or what have you. Or more simply put, Morgxn has faith this person can succeed and is trying to impart that assurance onto him or her.
