Lyrics of “Hideaway”

“Hideaway” reads like a love song that is likely, all things considered, influenced by Christian ideology. The reason we can presume that this piece is romantic in nature is because in the chorus, the vocalist refers to the addressee as “baby”.

And as far as the verses go, most simply put Bear goes about presenting himself as someone who will always be there for this person he’s singing to, regardless of whatever hardship she is going through. And the way he goes about relaying that message is slightly reminiscent of certain lines from the Bible.

So ultimately, this is a song of encouragement. As illustrated in the bridge, it isn’t necessarily as if the vocalist is supporting the addressee for supporting’s sake. Instead, he is encouraging this person to keep pressing on, knowing that he or she has a faithful companion along the way.

“I’m not your saving grace
Nobody’s hero, babe
Not sure what I can change
But I’ll be your hideaway
Baby don’t be afraid
Some things you can’t escape
Baby, I’ll keep you safe
I’ll be your hideaway”
