“King’s Rant” by Masego

“King’s Rant” is a braggadocios song, with Masego presenting himself as a king. More specifically he puts forth he is the “king of the garden”. And based on the second verse, the garden is more or less a metaphor for music. So generally speaking the quoted phrase seems to point to the idea of him being a big shot in the music game.

He goes about buttressing this notion by pointing out that he’s personally affiliated with well-known artists such as Will Smith and J Cole. Also Masego touts that when he is featured on someone else’s track he has “the Drake effect”, as in his section being more memorable than even the main artist’s.

And overall, the gimmick of this song – so to speak – is that  throughout he references other musicians who for the most part are more popular than himself. But overall, “King’s Rant” reads like a lighthearted affair whereas Masego’s primarily goal is to prove that he is indeed a premiere lyricist amongst his peers.
