“Tippa My Tongue” by Red Hot Chili Peppers

It can definitely be concluded that “Tippa My Tongue” is a love song, though one of the more multi-subjected that we have probably ever come across. The bulk of the lyrics are dedicated to the vocalist being smitten by the addressee. Accordingly, via the utilization of a number of colorful metaphors, he states his strong commitment to their relationship, which apparently includes the willingness to have children with her.

But where the lyrics go off on tangents, if you will, is initially in the first verse. Here, the singer actually starts off the song by alluding to his overall wildness. Later on, the idea that he likes living on the edge, so to speak, is verified by what appears to be an advocacy of ingesting LSD, at least within the context of his relationship with the addressee. 

And along a similar line, part of the chorus and a few associated lyrics are dedicated to presenting the Red Hot Chili Peppers presenting themselves as, shall we say perennially-hot musicians. 

Certain imagery may suggest that the title of this song is connected to an affinity for LSD – which is often taken with the tongue being involved. However, the titular phrase doesn’t appear to be used so in the chorus. Instead the term “tip of my tongue”, as utilized, sounds like it has something to do with the band’s music and/or the singer using that particular part of his body, in one way or another, to seduce the addressee.

Release of “Tippa My Tongue”

This is the lead single from “Return of the Dream Canteen”, a 2022 LP from the longstanding Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song itself came out, via Warner Records, on 19 August of said year.
