Kesha – Cannibal
Even though Kesha has insinuated that she created the music on her “Cannibal” EP to appeal to kids, the title song from the project is definitely based on an adult theme. Or rather let’s say, as implied in the first verse, it is centered on an adolescent-like lust.
So the addressee would be a romantic interest of the narrator. And going back to the first verse, what she was telling him is that he’s the type of individual that she would definitely “stalk” if they were in high school. But now being a celebrity and all, it is rather he who is sweating her. And due to her strong physical attraction to him, in response, she states her intention to “eat” him like “a cannibal”. That statement would of course be a metaphor. And this metaphor would point to the idea of her fantasizing about vigorously being intimate with him.
Conclusion
And in summation, that is in fact what this song is about – romantic intimacy. Kesha is touting herself as a, shall we say voracious-sensual being. That is to say once someone really turns her on, she can go wild in the bedroom. And the addressee is such an individual who has this effect on her. So all things considered, we can conclude that the song actually serves as an ode to the singer’s wild side in the bedroom.
Facts about “Cannibal”
This song originally came out, via RCA Records and Kemosabe Records, on 19 November 2010. It was the title track from Kesha’s first extended play.
Over a decade later, in early 2020, “Cannibal”, which was never released as a standard single, blew up as part of a dance challenge on the popular social-media platform TikTok. And Kesha directly contributed to the viral craze by performing the ‘Cannibal dance’ herself on TikTok.
Kesha wrote this song alongside Pebe Sebert and the track’s two producers, Ammo and Billboard. And for the record Pebe, who has been writing songs for decades, is also Kesha’s mom.
