“Recession Proof” by Yo Gotti
On “Recession Proof”, Yo Gotti is bragging about his insane wealth. However, he is doing so specifically against the backdrop of the global economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. In other words, while other rappers are now struggling to make ends meet, Yo himself is doing better than ever. And he attributes this reality to two factors. First is that the aforementioned artists tend to spend their earnings frivolously. And second being a true hustler, Gotti is “recession proof”. He is basically saying that regardless of the state of economy, he’s always on top of his grind. Indeed the rapper insinuates throughout that prior (or even concurrently) with being a music star he was also a successful drug dealer.
“Recession Proof” was released on the 2nd of July 2020. The label behind the tune is Collective Music Group (CMG), which Yo Gotti himself founded. In fact this song will go down in history as the first track Yo Gotti has released independently (i.e. under his own label).
Yo Gotti wrote “Recession Proof” alongside Al Greenwood, Mick Jones and the track’s producer, Tay Keith.
