“A Pot in Which to Piss” Titus Andronicus (ft. Craig Finn & Cassie Ramone)
“A Pot in Which to Piss” begins with the writer describing how it felt to stand before an audience to perform, stating that despite its beauty, he feels troubled inwardly because of the pressure to please them.
The singer then recalls his previous performances which were well-received. He uses the terms good GPA and grades to adjudge his previous performance and his seven-inch record. Despite the band’s current status, the writer appears to be displeased with his current situation considering that he keeps referring to his past and how things were simpler back then. This could possibly be as a result of the numerous criticisms received and how the industry can frustrate a person into simply producing songs that appeal to the audience.
In the subsequent verses, the narrator suggests how artists feel like throwing in the towel because of the nature of the music industry. His contention is particularly with the way talent alone is not going to get one far. In the final verse, the writer admits that although his path to success has been plagued with mistreatments, he still survived. He refuses to give up regardless of all the humiliation he has been subjected to.
