Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains is a hard rock group not to be confused with their predecessor, another band called Alice N Chains. As the story goes Alice N Chains were originally going to call themselves Alice in Chains but opted not to, as the latter reads as a potential reference to bondage. But after Alice N Chains ultimately dissolved, lead singer Layne Staley dubbed the subsequent group he participated in Alice in Chains. And he remained a member of the latter until passing away in 2002.

As of 2020 with the exception of Staley and Mike Starr, who himself passed away in 2011, the other two original members of the band – Jerry Cantrell (guitar) and Sean Kinney (drums) – are still down with the group. And they have been joined by bassist Mike Inez and vocalist William DuVall.

This band is considered to be one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever, having served as an influence for many others. As of 2019 they have been nominated for nearly a dozen Grammy Awards. Also as of that time, they have sold in excess of 30,000,000 records around the world. And their third album, titled after themselves, topped the Billboard 200.

Over the years, the band has released a ton of hit songs, including “Would?” and “Nutshell“.
