“Apologetic” by Lupe Fiasco

Lupe Fiasco’s “Apologetic” is another rap song in which the primary goal of the artist, himself being a famous musician, is to boast of his lofty standing. And Lupe takes a creative approach to this otherwise standard fare. For the way he goes about doing so, at least thematically, is by apologizing for being “born” to be a star. Or at least that’s how the rapper perceives himself, and of course he is being sarcastic by making such statements.  But otherwise he uses the bulk of the lyrics to prove his point. And for the most part he takes a ‘hood-based approach, i.e. touting his gun-based toughness and exceptional wealth.

Summary

Basically, Lupe, via this song, is sarcastically apologizing to his haters for being someone so wealthy and tough to the point where they can’t compete with him.

This song is part of a project, consisting of only two tracks altogether, called “Tape Tape” which Lupe, the vocalist and writer, put together with Soundtrakk, the producer.

Lupe and Soundtrakk, both musicians from Chi-town, have an extensive collaboration history prior to “Tape Tape”.
