Baha Men

The Baha Men are a music band from the Bahamas that formed way back in 1977.  They are a quintessential example of what is referred to as a one-hit wonder. That is to say that they have international recognition alright, but most people know them only based on one song. That would be the classic “Who Let the Dogs Out” (2000), and boy what a success it was!

For instance, it charted in almost 20 countries, scoring a number 1 on the UK Indie Chart in the process. Additionally it earned the Baha Men a 2001 Grammy Award. This is despite it only peaking at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Because more importantly the song was a pop-media sensation, going viral as they would say in more-modern times. But this was before the internet age itself, and one of reasons for the track’s success was due to its usage in pop media. For instance, it has proven extremely-popular at sporting events. And whereas the Baha Men have dropped a handful of songs which have charted afterwards, such as “You All Dat” (2001), the success of those songs was in the direct aftermath of “Who Let the Dogs Out”.
