“Bewitched”

Laufey has described “Bewitched”, i.e. the project at large, as being “a love album, whether it be a love towards a friend or a lover or life”. She proceeded to offer other additional elucidations, such as it being based on her “writing about the magic in the love of being young”.

Those are pretty fancy descriptions, but as for this, the title track, it’s obviously romantic in nature, i.e. a standard love song based on an easy-to-decipher metaphor.

For instance in the chorus, we have the vocalist plainly stating that she was “bewitched… from the first time” the addressee “kissed her”.  And in the refrain, Laufey goes on to describe what being “bewitched” entails, which is her finding it difficult “to think straight” and “falling apart” when the two of them are together.

“You bewitched me
From the first time that you kissed me
Waited all night
Then we ran down the street in the late London light
The world froze around us
You kissed me goodnight”

The second verse does go on to imply, sorta in conjunction with Laufey’s above explained, that what the vocalist is more specifically alluding to is falling in love for the first. That’s one way of interpretation what’s being said. Another way of interpreting the second verse, while going out on a limb a bit, is as presenting the singer as a nervous wreck, i.e. someone who’s overly afraid of losing the addressee, as if maybe she’s already had her heart broken before.

Or in any event, Laufey is “bewitched”, coming to the realization that another person has now control of her heart, if you will. And it isn’t as if she’s concerned or alarmed by this sensation but rather comes off more like she’s confused.
