Meaning of “Cold World” by SamTheBozz
Singer SamTheBozz approaches this track from an apathetic standpoint. He states outright that, as the title suggests, the world is cold. In other words, there are a lot of bad things happening to people that seems unfair. But, unlike most other songs based on such a subject, at first Sam says he doesn’t care about such misfortune, or rather that it is “okay”. In fact he further goes on to state that he actually enjoys the way things are.
However, as the song progresses, it takes a different turn. TheBozz starts to take a sympathetic stand and insinuates that the reason for his pessimistic disposition is that ultimately there is nothing which can be done to warm the world up.
Then the track takes a 360 from its beginning. Now instead of accepting the world as it is and relishing in it, he is issuing a call for action. For instance, he mentions the fact that there are “people starving” while those who are more-fortunate “do nothing”. To put it differently, Sam calls on people who are in a better position to give a damn about those who are not, even if they are strangers.
Ultimately “Cold World” is a song in which SamTheBozz uses an initially callous approach to instead misdirect listeners to take positive action and make the world a better place.
