“Constance” by Spiritbox
The authorship of “Constance” is mainly attributed to Spiritbox frontwoman Courtney LaPlante. She wrote it during 2020’s coronavirus pandemic. And due to the resultant lockdowns, she was unable to be with her grandmother during her passing, in addition to not being able to attend her funeral. So that’s whom the song itself actually serves as a tribute to.
Meanwhile the titular “Constance” is actually a reference to Constance Hryciuk, the grandmother of Dylan Hryciuk, the director of the track’s music video. She also passed away in 2020. And basically, Spiritbox used the occasion of the release of this song to honor both of these artists’ grandmothers.
Officially “Constance” was written by the entirety of Spiritbox, a music group from Canada. The track was released on the 4th day of December, 2020. The date in question would have been Constance Hryciuk’s 88th birthday.
The credited producer of this song is Daniel Braunstein.

It makes me upset and angry that the authorities disallowed people from seeing their grandparents and having funerals. It’s sick and unforgivable.
As a frontliner and someone that lost their grandmother during the height of covid, I hear what you are saying, but I couldn’t disagree more. An ill-timed family gathering gave my grandmother covid and she died shortly after. Having seen more death in those first eight months than I had in my entire life, I know her passing was anything but “peaceful.” Covid spread because of politics and selfish people. That’s unforgivable.
You’re assuming that she wouldn’t have died without going to the event. People should have the freedom to choose if they want to be with family or not. Being forced to die alone is unforgivable and savage. And if we blame anyone, it should be our government who created and released the virus, no doubt for political reasons, not people who choose to live without fear.
Oh my god. I wasn’t expecting to see such degeneracy as a comment to such a beautiful song.
I couldn’t agree more. It was absolute sickness and moral rot that gave birth to that situation, both literally and figuratively.
We are owed redress.
