The “Homework” Album

Renowned French electronic music duo Daft Punk released the instrumental song, Da Funk, as the fourth song on their debut studio album, Homework. Virgin Records and Soma Quality Records produced and released the album on January 20, 1997. The album comprises sixteen songs, all of which were composed by the duo.

One of the interesting stories behind the album is that Daft Punk recorded the tracks on the album separately over about five months, without releasing an album. However, after listening to the songs numerous times, they felt they were high quality and needed to put them in a collection. Therefore, they titled the album Homework because they recorded the songs at home, very cheaply and spontaneously, just as students do their homework.

In general, Homework was a worldwide success. It peaked at number 150 on the Billboard 200 chart, number 8 on the U.K. albums chart, and number 3 on the French Albums Chart.

In addition, it peaked at the top twenty positions on the music charts of several countries. Furthermore, it has received numerous gold and platinum certifications from the U.S.A. and several European countries. The album sold over two million copies globally by the end of 2001.
