Dylan Conrique’s “Birthday Cake” Lyrics Meaning

As the story goes, Dylan Conrique wrote “Birthday Cake” a couple of years prior to its release. And she did so for her bestie, a girl who, at the tender age of 12, experienced the death of her mother.

Of course something like that is very personal, and by the looks of things the original intent was not for this piece to be made public. But apparently, said bestie entreated Dylan to release “Birthday Day” officially.

And the creative thing about this song is that the vocalist doesn’t proceed to take the standard bereavement approach, as in weeping over the person who has passed away or what have you. Instead her focus, as in the addressee of the lyrics, is on her friend who is still here on the mortal plane.

And most simply put, Dylan is telling her that she should not be overcome by feelings of melancholy. Instead, the singer rather wants to see the addressee live life with a newfound vigor, as if her mother has actually “made it to 48”. So the implication would be that the lady passed away at the age of 47.

“Birthday Cake”

Then as far as the “birthday cake” reference goes, it seems as if the aforementioned mother used to bake such delicacies for the addressee. So Dylan is basically telling her to be as if her some never died basically – as if she is still going to be around the prepare the girl’s next “birthday cake”.

Takeaway

All in all, as illustrated in the second verse, the vocalist is instructing the addressee to never forget that her mom did in fact love her. So it seems from Dylan’s perspective, being permanently bent out of shape about something as absolute as death is not an ideal modus operandi, even if the person who passed is someone you loved a lot.

Dylan Conrique and “Birthday Cake”

Thus far Dylan Conrique’s main claim to fame is serving as a cast member on Chicken Girls, which happens to be a very popular, teen-based web series. And as of the official dropping of this track on 2 February 2022, Conrique is 17 years old.

But with that noted, Dylan has actually been in the game for a minute, with her first song (according to Genius), “Most Girls”, coming out in September of 2017, when she would have been 13½ years old.

“Birthday Cake” was produced by a musical duo known as Supperclub. And the two individuals who make up that outfit, Danny Berrios and SE Berrios, also co-wrote it with Dylan.

The lady whose death inspired this song died of cancer. And accordingly Dylan has teamed up with the American Cancer Society in the name of raising funds for cancer prevention via this track’s music video.

I absolutely loved this song and it made me realize that not everyone’s life is a dream and not everyone has an adult to look after them. This makes me think that anyone that does have someone should not treat them for granted as this could happen to anyone and I would just like to say to the author this is my new favourite song as it makes me feel empathy for you friend and everyone else that went through this. I have been lucky enough to not exprerience this feeling but I feel bad for anyone that has. UwU
