“Easy” by Groove Armada

The wording of Groove Armada’s “Easy” is terse and the lyrics, repetitive. But that doesn’t necessarily mean what is being put forth is easy – no pun intended – to understand. But from the vocalist’s perspective, what she is saying as the thesis sentiment is that “looking back it was easy”.

Later, it is revealed that what “it” is would be “an easy job” that the narrator was tasked with. She further defines this endeavor as “something to do by you”, i.e. via or for the addressee, which honestly is the most difficult statement to understand in this song. But that said, we can also conclude that the vocalist considered said task a “sacrifice” on her behalf.

So taking all of that into consideration, it reads as if the singer did some type of a favor for the addressee. Or perhaps that’s the way that the latter, and let’s say the average person in general, would perceive the situation. But the vocalist seems to be letting this person know that, due to the love she has for this individual, she considers making such sacrifices a natural reaction or “easy”, as she puts it.
