“Fall at Your Feet” by Crowded House

Though he feels closer to her and believes he’s getting to know this woman in the first verse, he admits in the second verse that she may still be hiding certain aspects of herself from him.

The third verse however captures his devotion and willingness to be there whenever she needs him and to be the shoulder she can always lean on. Perhaps the writer believes he can become more intimate with this woman if he is continually submissive and helpful to her. Hence his repetition of the titular phrase.

Facts about “Fall at Your Feet”

This song is from Crowded House’s critically acclaimed “Woodface” album, their third studio effort overall, as presented by Capitol Records. And it was written exclusively by the band’s lead singer, Neil Finn.

Neil also produced the song, doing so alongside another musician, Mitchell Froom. In actuality, the chorus and original verse of “Fall at Your Feet” were respectively for different tracks. And it was Froom who instructed Finn to put the two of them together.

The director of this track’s music video is Andrew Dominik.

Crowded House is actually a band from the land down under. And in 1993 they earned an APRA Music Award, with this song being named the Most Performed Australian Work Overseas.

Indeed “Fall at Your Feet” was a notable success, making it onto the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching as high as number 17 in Britain (the UK Singles Chart). And at the end of the day, it charted in about 10 nations, including of course Australia.

This track has also been featured on the band’s compilation album “Recurring Dream: The Very Best of Crowded House” (1996). And it also made it onto the setlist of their live album, “Farewell to the World” (2006).

    That’s really interesting that the verse at the beginning wasn’t intended for this song. Makes me wonder what it would’ve been like if they’d been two separate songs, and how the mood of them might’ve been different. Love the lyrics of this song though. It’s truly a masterpiece of a song.

      Although one of its founding members, Neil Finn is from New Zealand, Crowded House is actually from Melbourne, Australia. Furthermore, the other founding members of the band, Nick Seymour and Paul Hester are from Australia.

    Just saw them in concert and was surprised on how many people sang along to it live, so much so that the crowd sang the whole song by ourselves pitch perfect too. I have loved this song since the album WOODFACE came out.
