The narrator in this track makes several references to the history of Native Americans, who he refers to as “the red man”. He sings about how these people were hunted and killed on their own land by the Europeans that had migrated to their land.

The genocide which involved murder through violence and strange diseases, were according to the writer, possible because of the exposure to knowledge the European Americans had, and the lack thereof of native Americans.

Genocide (The Killing of the Buffalo) was written and released by Thin Lizzy as the seventh track off the band’s 1980 album, Chinatown.
