“Get Out My Head” by Shane Codd

Shane Codd, despite dropping vocals on “Get Out My Head”, is known primarily as a DJ.  And his profession, which involves getting people together to dance, was one of the careers most directly and adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic of 2020.  So what he is actually trying to ‘get out of his head’, as purposed by this track, is the depressing reality of the aforementioned disease. That is to say that this track is meant to be an exercise in escapism.

But going back to his DJ roots, the wording of the song is actually simplistic and repetitive. And they do not center on COVID in any way. Rather the lyrics are based on a narrative in which a romantic interest (the addressee) has gotten too close to the singer for comfort. Or stated alternatively, he is disturbed that she knows him so well, as in being able to ‘read his mind’. So it is her he is telling explicitly to ‘get out of his head’, as in give him space so to speak.

In addition to serving as the lyricist of “Get Out of My Head”, Shane Codd also wrote and produced the song.

This track, which is backed by Polydor Records, was officially released on 25 May 2020.  And based on reactions Shane received, it did achieve its goal of making some listeners feel more positive during the coronavirus lockdowns.
