“I Don’t Know About You” by Chris Lane
“I Don’t Know About You” is based on singer Chris Lane kicking it (as in attempting to pick up) a lady he has met at a bar. The implication is that she is a romantic interest. And the title, “I don’t know about you”, is a line he uses throughout the song in varying capacities to express his interest in her as well as at earlier points seemingly to spark conversation..
And that is pretty much the gist of the song. He asks her a bunch of questions – none too personal – in order to get to know her better. And the fact that he wants to know “everything” about her is an ample indication of just how interested the singer is in this new associate. Or put differently, while Chris seemingly has a romantic interest in her which logically is due to physical attraction, his questions for the most part are not centered on intimacy. Rather he wants to know her basic background information and what makes her tick.
