“I Had A Dream” captures Kelly Clarkson’s candid thoughts about prominent people in her generation. She explains in the song that people who want to leave legacies should leave a positive one instead of indulging in things that do not benefit anyone.

She first advises people who want to be in leadership or reach celebrity status to do so, but to remember that when they get to those positions, everything they do will matter to everyone. As such, they should be careful not to influence others negatively.

Clarkson’s message is that she dreams of a world where her generation will set good examples and inspire people through their words and deeds instead of vain things such as smoking, and lavish lifestyles.
