“If You Leave Me Now” by Foxes
Foxes wrote “If You Leave Me Now” as she was recuperating from a breakup. And the track itself is loosely based on such a narrative – one in which she is entreating her lover not to leave her.
Thus the title is seemingly derived from a scenario where the singer is imagining what her life would be like if he were to actually leave, though she doesn’t go into too much detail concerning what exactly she is envisioning. But the bottom line is that she very much does not want him to go. In fact she ‘gave her everything’ to this relationship and would clearly be disappointed, as well as heartbroken, if he decided to dump her.
And unlike the real-life scenario which this song is meant to mirror, it seems that in this particular case he may have indeed opted to stay. As a matter of fact the lyrics do come off as being a bit convoluted at times. For instance, in the first verse Foxes alludes to the idea that she may be better off, from a personal standpoint, actually being free of this relationship. Or let’s say that there are clues that this isn’t an ideal romance. But that being established, she is clearly in love. And as such, the notion of her lover actually leaving her seems to be something akin to a nightmare come true, even if she is able to perceive potential positives being derived from that possibility also.

Writing Credits
