What it looks like is that the narrator is trying to get with a particular woman, that being the addressee. She is presented as someone who has had her heart broken in the past – so much so that she isn’t interested in re-venturing out into the field of romance. So up until this point, the vocalist’s attempts to make her his lover appear to have been more or less in vain.

But his reaction is like, she can’t sit around mourning forever. Eventually, she will have to open her heart back up to loving and being loved. The narrator is convinced that when that moment comes, ‘it is going to be him’ that she hooks up with. And that’s because she will come to the realization that he is not like the other guys, as in he’s really serious about being with her. But in the meantime yes, the vocalist does seem as if he’s rushing her along, personally desiring to reach that point sooner rather than later.

Facts about “It’s Gonna Be Me”

In June of 2000, NSYNC officially released “It’s Gonna Be Me” as single number 3 from their third studio album, which goes by the title “No Strings Attached”.

There are three songwriters who are credited with composing this song. They are:

  • Andreas Carlsson
  • Max Martin

“It’s Gonna Be Me” was a very successful song for NSYNC. It was a number 1 hit in the United States for the band. Actually it not only topped the Hot 100, but also did the same on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 listing.

FYI: Before getting to the number 1 spot in America, “It’s Gonna Be Me” had to knock off Matchbox Twenty’s “Bent” from the top spot.

In Canada, it replicated the same feat. Furthermore, “It’s Gonna Be Me” gave NSYNC a top-10 hit in the following regions:

  • UK (#9)
  • New Zealand (#7)
  • Sweden (#6)

The song went on to achieve Silver and Gold certification in the United Kingdom and US, respectively. IN the later country alone, it sold over half a million units.

On “Lip Sync Battle”, Luis Fonsi lip syncs to “It’s Gonna Be Me” while competing with Joan Smalls.

The song is featured in the 10th episode of the 5th season of “Supergirl”. “Supergirl” is an American TV series based on DC Comics.

The 2022 animated movie “Turning Red” featured the song in their official trailer. The movie star the likes of Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh and Ava Morse.

The “No Strings Attached” Album

“No Strings Attached” was officially came out on June 13 of 2000. The album was supposed to come out in 1999 but it was delayed due to a legal battle between the group and their founder and manager, Lou Pearlman. The American boy band sued him for issues related to their earnings.

The album eventually got released in 2000 by Jive Records as the group’s first album under the record label.

With sales of over 2,400,000 copies, the highly anticipated album set a record for the highest sales recorded within an album’s first week of release in the United States. “No Strings Attached” held on to this record for 15 years, until Adel’s 2015 album, “25” recorded sales of 3,380,000 within its first week of release.

The album enjoyed a number 1 status on charts in the US, Canada and Japan. It peaked at No.14 in the UK, No.3 in Australia, No.8 in Belgium and No.6 in Netherlands.

Between May and December of 2000, NSYNC embarked on a tour (No Strings Attached Tour) as a means of creating awareness for the album. Over a million tickets were sold on the first day tickets were released. Over USD 70,000,000 was realized from the tour.

In 2001, the album won a nomination for “Best Pop Vocal Album” at the Grammy Awards.

In all, “No Strings Attached” was promoted by 4 hit singles, including “It’s Gonna Be Me”. The others are:

  • “I’ll Never Stop”
  • “This I Promise You”
