“Knee Deep at ATP” by Los Campesinos!
Most simply explained, this narrative is based the vocalist falling for the wrong girl. Or more specifically, he discovers that she has a boyfriend after the fact. And whereas some guys probably wouldn’t care, as seemingly implied by the third verse he is not that type of a person.
That said, the lyrics themselves are very symbolic. And the only verse which plainly speaks to the backstory upon which this narrative is based is the second. Therein, the listener is able to ascertain that the dilemma the vocalist is dealing with is in fact discovering, via photos, that he was apparently deceived into believing that his significant other is single.
Then as far as the title is concerned, as the story goes all of this happened at a music festival known as All Tomorrow’s Parties or ATP for short. Gareth David, the frontman of Los Campesinos!, met a girl there. He allowed himself to fall in love with her on an ultimately meaningless similarity and thereafter found out that she was already dating someone else. This of course ended up breaking his heart big time.

Despite their moniker conjuring up images of Latin America, Los Campesinos! is actually a Welsh pop band. And “Knee Deep at ATP”, which came out on 25 February 2008, is one of the songs featured on their debut album, “Hold on Now, Youngster…”. This is a project which charted in the UK, US and Belgium.
