“Let Us Adore You” by Steven Universe

“Let Us Adore You” is a song obtained from “Steven Universe: The Movie”, with “Steven Universe” being the titular character in an eponymous cartoon series. Thus the track fits specifically into the storyline of said film. And a little background concerning the scene it is featured in is beneficial in understanding its meaning.

Steven Universe is the son of Pink Diamond, formerly a leader of a group called the Great Diamond Authority. And the female singers featured on this song  – Lisa, Patti and Christine – respectively play the roles of the members of the Great Diamond Authority, who are Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond and White Diamond. Meanwhile Zach Callison is Steven Universe himself. And basically, the female vocalists (the Diamonds) are trying to convince the male vocalist (Steven Universe) to become the leader of the Great Diamond Authority in his mother’s absence.

But as we are made aware of throughout the song, Steven is deadset on following his own path. He does not want to stay and fulfill this role despite the Diamonds entreating him to do so. And at the end of the song, we see that despite them making every effort imaginable to change his mind, Steven still decides to leave (to Earth).

Conclusion

So as the title suggests, this song is based on the singers’ adoration of Steven Universe. This is manifest not only in affectionate words but also their stated willingness to pretty much do whatever it takes to please him. But at the end of the day, he comes off as a headstrong character, who is willing to forsake a life of privilege in order to pursue his own calling.
