“Like I Need U” by ​Keshi

So in “Like I Need U”, the narrator (Keshi) is singing to a girl whom he is in love with. The beginning of the track reads as if it is his ex, but the outro suggests otherwise. So it is possibl the two of them are currently actively involved. However, we can see that it is nothing serious, at least not in the eyes of the girl. Or looking at it from another perspective, it almost sounds as if the two of them are broken up.

But Keshi is not able to move on. So he finds himself for instance calling homegirl in the middle of the night while he’s intoxicated. And it would appear as if sometimes he is met with a cold reception. In fact he even implies that she may be sleeping with someone else. Or to put things into their simplest terms, the singer is a victim of unrequited love.

But once again, the song climaxes with Keshi stating that he and the addressee are sleeping with each other, as in recently engaged in bedroom fun. So this isn’t a situation where he is not getting any affection from the woman he loves. Rather he seems to receive such sporadically. And at any given moment she can forsake him, even perhaps seeing another guy. But his feelings for her are obviously too strong for him to properly function without her, thus the titular expression that the person he is addressing does not need him as much as vice versa.

Yes. And not only did he write it, but he also produced it.

 The track was dropped on 13 November 2018 as one of the four tracks on his The Reaper EP of 2018. It ended up being The Reaper‘s most successful track.
