“Meet Me At Our Spot” by The Anxiety

Apparently the name of this musical act, “The Anxiety”, was inspired by the real-life anxiety the vocalists suffer in their lives. And relatedly, “Meet Me At Our Spot” is premised on a mental health theme, with the first verse focusing on the vocalist(s) suffering from oversleeping and the second insomnia.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for The Anxiety's Meet Me At Our Spot at Lyrics.org.

In both cases, Willow and Tyler respectively express a belief that as they age, likewise these maladies will be minimized. Or as they put it, they’ll “be so much stronger” when they’re “older”.

But in the meantime, there’s still these mental issues to be dealt with. And it is that concept which lies at the heart of this narrative, i.e. the narrators having a “spot” that they “meet” up at when they want to chill together and effectively find some relief.

It may be that they’re romantic interests, but if so the lyrics don’t really go there. More to the point would be the fact that they’re besties, i.e. the one the other person calls when they feel overly stressed.

Beyond that there is sort of a party – for lack of a better term – vibe to this piece also. That is to say that part of the aforementioned chillin’ would be the two of them hitting the road together, seemingly enjoying the bright lights of L.A. (where both Willow and Tyler are based).

Also, the reason we used the word party earlier is because in his verse, Cole notes, in a sly kinda way, that alcohol is part of this equation also. In fact all things considered, we could perhaps even go as far as to postulate that drunk or intoxicated driving, which by the way certain people actually find enjoyable, is being referenced to as an aspect of this narrative. But again, the lyrics don’t actually go there.

All in all

So conclusively, taking all of the lyrics into consideration, “Meet Me at Our Spot” can be best classified as a friendship song. That is to say that in truth there is no identifiably romantic element to the lyrics, even though it’s being relayed by a man and woman. But still, it is obvious that the only time the two of them are most happy, intoxication and cruising and hangout spots aside, is when they are together.

"Meet Me At Our Spot" Lyrics

The Anxiety

The Anxiety is the name of a collaborative project between Willow and Tyler Cole. The former, as you probably already know, is the daughter of a couple of famous, sometimes-professional musicians themselves, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. And being born to this pair of A listers afforded the songstress the opportunity to drop her first single, “Whip My Hair” (2010), before she even turned 10 year old.

Between 2015 and 2021, Willow got around to releasing four studio albums. And Tyler Cole, who is more of a newjack on the scene, was heavily involved in the creation of the latter two of those, 2019’s Willow and 2021’s Lately I Feel Everything. And in between those projects, in 2020 they came out with a joint album, where Cole is also featured vocally, entitled The Anxiety.

“Meet Me At Our Spot”

This song we’re covering today is derived from The Anxiety album. And the reason we’re compelled to cover it now is because the tune recently went viral of TikTok.

This song was written and produced by the two vocalists. It didn’t get around to charting, as sort of alluded to earlier, until 2021. And it did so admirably, breaking the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart, topping the Sweden Heatseeker listing and charting in over 10 nations overall.

And it also marks Willow’s best showing on the Billboard Hot 100 since the previously noted “Whip My Hair”, which still firmly holds the distinction of being her biggest hit.

For the record, Willow Smith was 19 years old when this song came out on 13 March 2020 and Tyler Cole, 21.

I always thought this was about a shooting

It’s simply a brilliant song and the harmony and production value are magnificent. I’ve listened to this song about 50 times in one day. WOW.

  3. Michelle F says:

This song reminds me of the same vibe The Mamas and Papas created way back when. Willow has such a strong and full voice! She is a truly talented woman!

  4. Rylan says:

I thought the song was about cheating. Meeting ones crush whilist being married to someone already. The sheer thought of both of them thinking about each other keeps one awake ‘can’t fall asleep’ while the other can’t seem to wake up ‘i can’t even stay up’ due to feeling of deep shame for cheating on the other half. Especially when the main chorus sings “Caught a vibe
Baby, are you coming for the ride? (The ride, the ride, the ride)
I just wanna look into your eyes (your eyes, your eyes)
I just wanna stay for the night, night, night
    When we take a drive
Maybe we can hit the 405
    Hypnotized by the lights
Man, this must be the life” living the bliss behind a married lovers back before it eventually covers to an end! Very well put song that signifies the name of the band perfectly addressing the issues allot of mental patients face in their day too day life! Love this song!

No I don’t think this is what it was at all. I think you’re confirming the song to your own deep thoughts. That’s just my opinion though.

      • JJ says:

There is no right or wrong answer. That’s what music is… what you perceive. For me it’s about two lovers doing drugs but just because that makes sense in the context of the song and my own head doesn’t make it correct. So every individual is correct in their interpretation.

Brilliant harmonies with a great hook

  6. Kris says:

I guess it’s however you relate to it. To me the lyrics sound like they got a vibe / attraction from eachother and want to go chill . You can take it so many ways, that was my first thought though.

    very very good song yes

  8. Anonymous says:

It is definitely about doing drugs…….

Yep, caught a vibe is about shooting dope. Addicts have used the term “caught a vibe” since before Willow was even born.

…and they did sing “I just got a drug test, meet me at my spot.”

      • TwisTTie says:

I just got a Drunk Text Is the lyric

      • Anonymous says:

lyrics is actually “drunk text” not “drug test.”

      • Anonymous says:

I always thought they were using that drug reference in a “baby, you’re the only drug I need” kind of way.

      • RuthieBastoni says:

You’re wrong. Sorry. I’m actually a recovering addict & catching a vibe is not about dope or other drugs. It’s about a feeling, a genuinely positive one. Nothing drug related here! I don’t understand why people always assume that. I’ve never heard of anyone calling getting high catching a vibe. Way off. Thanks for your opinion though. I disagree strongly & have used in the past for many years.

      • Ursinda Fawles says:

Incorrect! It’s drunk text not drug test. Clean your ears out bro.

I’m an addict & we don’t call getting high catching a vibe. Not sure where you’re from but just saying.

I thought it was about a couple deal with anxiety unable to go out and be with the their boyfriend so they spend a lot of time on the internet maybe we could hit the 405 mean error do to the Unforbidden and I think I heard they play in waiting till the get married, make we can hit the 405, blinded by the light sometimes it happens when your on the computer to long and so on

  10. Tracey says:

The 405 is a freeway through Los Angeles. Seeing the bright lights of Hollywood, thinking this must be a hell of a fun way to live. I got the same feeling when I lived in SoCal.

It’s clearly about 2 young friends that are attracted to one another just cruising around enjoying being young.

Having been addicted to crystal m-th I am able to see the meaning of lyrics. I wouldn’t wish that addiction on anyone and my fear is that this song promotes using crystal meth intravenously. There is no negative tone to the song and I feel that it simply says it’s a good time and way to escape. The reality is that it real tear your life to shreds and throw you into a hole that you spend years trying to dig your way out of. Friends and family will try to pull you out but your to heavy for them and they have to let go before they destroy themselves trying to save you. You will end up alone in that hole until you finally get strong enough to pull your self out of it. Someone will push or pull you back in until you finally get out again and get as far as you can away from that hole.
To anyone who has never done crystal m-th it’s not an escape it’s an end to you life.

    • Broski Vibes says:

This song isn’t about meth or drugs! Stop inserting your false beliefs into it. That’s what you want it to be about apparently. Nothing suggests in those lyrics that it’s a drug related song. Sorry.

  13. JJ says:

This song has obvious romantic implications. Did you even hear the song? Meet me at our spot… Baby are you coming for the night? I just want to look into your eyes… When I look into your eyes, I just want to hold you all night… I just want to stay for the night… Hello? Did you miss these lyrics or something? Lmfao.

  14. Chris says:

The song has nothing to do with drugs. The only drug they allude to is Oxytocin in the chorus, which is the natural love drug, infatuation. First verse is depression, second version is anxiety, it’s a contrast being used in both the lyrics and vocalists. The Chorus is oxytocin as the relief as both singers harmonize. The only lyrics I don’t understand is In the bridge “there’s something I wanna show you”. An adult perspective would be her body, but it’s a juvenile “vibe”, so it could mean something innocent

I’m a drug counselor in the east coast and the term “caught a vibe” is def a term for just shot up heroine. The lyrics saying I can’t go to sleep but I can’t stay awake seems to refer to the limbo state of nodding out in heroine where you can’t stay awake but your really not sleeping either. Whether they meant it to be about using drugs or not allot of the lyrics can be interpreted that way. As for the whether the lyric is “I just got a drug text” or if it’s “drunk text” there are many songs that change some lyrics for the PG version for radio, similar to the ABC song saying get lost instead of get fucked so who knows. But if it’s drugs or alcohol it promotes driving under the influence down the 405 and being hypnotized by the lights so either way I don’t think either are a positive message. However I do like the sound of the song and they have great voices. I’m kind of confused as to where Willow got the English sounding accent when she was raised here is the US lol

  16. Piranha Patrice says:

You mentioned that you don’t necessarily feel the couple singing is romantically involved. Did you not hear the lyrics I just want to hold you all night & when I look into your eyes? I mean, that sounds pretty romantically involved to me! I suppose friends can look into each other’s eyes, but holding each other all night?? Plus the part about the drunk text? Meet me at our spot, they can’t find us there? That shows me that it’s quite possible that these two are either cheating, or at least one of them is being unfaithful to a partner, which explains the need to meet up at a secret place. Plus they “caught a vibe”, so I definitely feel there’s a sexual or physical connection here. I don’t think it’s at all about drugs, but more a natural high they both get from being with each other. Nothing suggests using illicit substances, unless you are assuming catching a vibe is a metaphor for getting high, but I doubt it. A vibe is usually a feeling, a positive energy perhaps. Or if it’s not related to cheating, maybe it’s simply an otherwise hidden or forbidden relationship that they feel must be hid? Although it could also just be their private escape from the madness of the world, a place where the two of them just go to chill & enjoy the lights + each other’s company. But of course, everyone has their own interpretation & perception, like with any song. Either way, I love it!

This reminded me of when my husband and I…back in the 80s. Both teenagers and going through life as teenagers. We found each other. We could Only talk with one another. No one else understood what we were going through or to be judged about what was on our minds.
32.5 yrs later. We still talk and still hang out together.
Brought Me to tears when I heard this song.

(From the article) “.., we could perhaps even go as far as to postulate that drunk or intoxicated driving, which by the way many people actually find enjoyable …”
    Errr, NO
We could also POSTULATE that the families of the many thousands of people killed by drunk driving each year around the world may “by the way, actually find” your comment OFFENSIVE!
What an irresponsible and deeply disturbing thing to say Amanda London

What is offensive about that? The writer IS NOT encouraging drunk driving! The writer is basically stating a fact. And what’s this fact? The fact that certain people unfortunately love to drive drunk. But is this a fact? Sadly the answer is YES! Multiple studies have been conducted into this. All these studies have come to this sad conclusion.

If you do a little research into this unfortunate happening, you’ll understand the writer isn’t wrong by saying driving while intoxicated is sadly something certain people love to do.

Below is a link to an article from the American Addiction Centers that sheds more light on this very sad and disturbing fact: https://americanaddictioncenters.org/blog/drunk-driving-statistics-in-america
