“My Will Be Done” by Powerwolf

A good portion of “My Will Be Done” is rendered in Latin, which is basically a dead language as far as modern usage is concerned. Or more specifically, when it is utilized it is often done for what can be deemed artistic and/or traditional-religious purposes, with both arguably being the case in this piece.

Also to note, this is the first time we have analyzed a Powerwolf song. Looking at their style of imagery and preferred genre, give the impression that they’re into some pretty-heavy, shall we say macabre stuff.

But in all honesty, as far as the lyrics are concerned, “My Will Be Done” reads as if it is primarily Christian, or more specifically Bible-inspired in nature.

“My Will Be Done”

For starters, it is easily ascertainable that the title is was derived from the closing sentence of what is known as the Lord’s Prayer, where the line rather reads “Thy will be done.”

The said “Thy” would be a reference to the Most High. And it reads as if Powerwolf are making that statement within a directly-related context. In other words, when they put forth “my will be done”, they are theoretically speaking from the perspective of Jesus Christ himself.

Jesus Christ is commonly understood by believers as being God’s right-hand man, i.e. Christ’s own will being that of the Most High.

And of course, anyone who is familiar with Jesus’s prophecies would know that one of its main tenets revolve around the predication that he would come back – once again in the name of the Lord – and actually establish God’s kingdom on Earth by force.

And what reads to be the case is that belief being at the base of this song, even though such is never explicitly stated. Or put otherwise, Powerwolf is looking forward to said prophecy being fulfilled. Or explained differently yet again, the way they perceive it is as such fulfillment being inevitable.

This is definitely a misunderstanding of the lyrics. It does not speak form Jesus’ perspective, but rather it uses Biblical imagery and then opposes it. ‘My will’ instead of ‘thy will’ etc, as is the case with most Powerwolf songs.
