“Numb Little Bug” by Em Beihold

“Numb Little Bug” is based on the vocalist (Em Beihold) being depressed and is pretty-straightforward in getting that point across. What is particularly notable about this narrative though is that it is in fact based on Em’s personal experiences with said malady, complete with regularly digesting antidepressants and all. 

Besides that, what also makes this song a bit unique is that in the chorus. Here, the vocalist goes about directly relating to the listening audience. And according to the songstress, that is one of the reasons why this tune has been so well-received, i.e. depression and other psychological issues being quite pervasive these days. 

The thesis sentiment revolves around the vocalist herself having grown weary of always feeling down. This forces her to resort to pills or what have you yet still being met with the same results. Owing to this, she comes to the conclusion that maybe she’s “just broken and broke”, i.e. fated to live a life highlighted by gloomy emotions.

Song’s Title

Concerning the title, it is also more or less self-explanatory, pointing to the emotional ‘numbness’ the narrator is experiencing. But that being noted, Em has also made it known that it wasn’t particularly intended for this song to be entitled so. Instead she artistically likened herself to “a numb little bug” while teasing it on TikTok, and the name ended up sticking to the track.

Facts about “Numb Little Bug”

“Numb Little Bug”, a track that officially went public on 28 January 2022, is Em Beihold’s debut single under a major label. Her discography actually dates back to 2017, to a self-released EP called “Infrared”. Then in early 2022 she signed with Moon Projects, a label under Republic Records.

Moon Projects is run by Mary Rahmani, a former high-level TikTok executive. And accordingly Beihold got her aforementioned deal after a snippet of “Numb Little Bug”, which she posted online in August of 2021. This snippet instantly went viral on TikTok.  Prior to that, Beihold also scored a social-media hit via her 2021 song “Groundhog Day”.

Em Beihold just turned 23 a few days before the release of this track. She is reportedly native to Los Angeles.

Did Em Beihold write “Numb Little Bug”?

Yes, she did! Besides for her, the other writers of this song are Nick Lopez and Dru DeCaro. DeCaro, who at the time is primarily known as the guitarist of R&B star Miguel, also co-produced this track. He achieved the production responsibilities with the following music producers:

NOTE

In a comment Em attached to the song’s official lyric video, she shed some more light on the song. She began the comment by saying that she wished could “heart” every single comment on the video. She went on to express some level of sadness that a ton of her fans can also relate to the lyrics of the song. However, she was quick to state that her “heart is full” from the sheer amount of support from the “support community” she and her fans have indirectly created online. She ended the comment by sending all her fans huge fat hugs couple with a heart emoji.
