“One Day Tonight” by Noah Thompson

Noah Thompson’s “One Day Tonight” is a love song, with its somewhat-perplexing title for the most part being a reference to the addressee’s vision for the future. Said addressee would be Noah’s romantic interest, the lady whom, as revealed in the outro, he intends to marry. 

The aforementioned vision is actually a depiction of her ideal family life, complete with “a honeymoon in Vegas”, “a boy and a girl”, a “dog named Old Roy”, etc. This is a topic she harps on regularly and one that the vocalist very much enjoys listening to, considering that he’s in love and sees himself as being part of this scenario. So conclusively, Noah hoping that she will take his hand and that he will be able to live up to her familial expectations.

This track was dropped on 13 May 2022, just about a week before Noah Thompson emerged victorious from the 20^th Season of American Idol. In fact on the day he took the crown, he performed “One Day Tonight” for the first time live. And as reported, that rendition earned the singer “a lengthy standing ovation”.

Noah is from Louisa, a small city found in Kentucky. A big deal has been made out of the fact that he’s the first American Idol champion to come from said state.

Noah expressed elation due to working in a studio for the first time ever, thus implying that up until this point he was in fact an amateur musician (who got his start via YouTube). So as such, this is of course his first-ever single.

Noah has seemingly written songs before, though “One Day Tonight” is not one of them. Instead this outing, which served as his closing original song on American Idol, was written by Trannie Anderson, Jared Griffin and Brett Sheroky. And the producer of the track is Jimmy Robbins.

According to Noah, he fell absolutely in love with the song the very first time he heard it. He has referred to the lyrics as “beautiful” and the melody as “so catchy”.
