Verse 1

This isn’t the first time Faouzia has been in a relationship where she wasn’t in love with her partner. In fact, she thought things would be different (as anyone would), hence deciding to give this new relationship a go. However, she soon realises that it’s the same dilemma as her previous relationships. It however, doesn’t stop her from feeling miserable when she realises its run its course, thus leading her having to walk out on them.

Pre-Chorus and Chorus

When one is “dressed in black”, it usually means that person is in mourning, which would seem fitting to the context of this song. In other words, Faouzia is mourning the death of her relationship. We soon find out that she had warned this said ex-partner, probably multiple times, that she wasn’t in love with them. Yet, we assume that they persisted probably hoping her feelings would change over the course of time.

“Man down” is a phase used when a person is shot or injured and needs urgent medical assistance. She notes that her walking out of the relationship has caused immense hurt to her now ex-partner, to the point that he could need medical assistance, idiomatically. Now, he/she joins the line of all her previous partners. Of course, not being in love with someone doesn’t mean that she won’t feel any sadness nor hurt – and we see here, that she does.

Verse 2

Now, post-breakup, Faouzia lies “in (her) bed at night” recollecting the whole event and how she made her ex-partner cry. She even entertains the thought of going back to them but knows that “it’s too late”. It is possible that it is at this moment she starts falling in love with her ex, probably understanding how much she was loved. Or, she doesn’t like hurting people and would rather be in an unrequited relationship to undo the hurt caused.
