“Save Your Love” by Renee & Renato

In Save your Love, the writer appears to be involved in a long-distance relationship with his love interest, hence his reason for asking her to save her love. The reference to summer nights could possibly allude to the fact that those are the times they get to physically see each other and create memories.

The subsequent verses are filled with romantic expressions, with the writer reminiscing on their last meeting. While he holds on to these memories during their time apart, he keenly anticipates the next chance they will get to hear and see each other. The core of this track seems to suggest that a true and lasting love can exist between two people irrespective of the fact that they are separated by distance.

In getting to number 1 in Britain, this song knocked off The Jam’s “Beat Surrender” on 18th December of 1982. It subsequently held the number 1 position for a total of 4 weeks before it too was replaced by Phil Collins’ hit single “You Can’t Hurry Love“.

This classic is a bilingual song. It is sung in both English and Italian. The Italian lyrics are sung by Renato.

Renee did not appear on the music video for this track. Her role was rather held down by a lookalike model named Val Penny.

More about Renée and Renato

Renée and Renato was an English and Italian vocal duo consisting of English singer Hilary Lester and Italian tenor Renato Pagliari. The pair were put together by British record producer and songwriter Johnny Edward.

Renato first grabbed the attention of Edward after he auditioned for a British TV talent show called New Faces in the 1970s. Edward was so impressed by Renato’s vocal abilities that he wasted no time in contacting him to sing a song he had already penned titled “Save Your Love”. Hilary Lester was subsequently recruited by Edward and his team to join Renato on the song. At the end of the day, both singers became the vocal duo we now all know today as Renée and Renato.

Throughout their musical career, the duo released a total of 3 studio albums. Their last album (“Wanting You”) came out in 1985. After the duo disbanded in the mid 1980s, Hilary abandoned the entertainment industry. As for Renato, he continued singing professionally until his death in 2009.
