Why the 21st day of the month of September?

The first line of this track famously makes a reference to 21 September. Maurice White (1941-2016) stated that he chose that particular date due to it sounding good within the flow of the song.

Fans of the band still consider that date to be special, though. In fact the Los Angeles City Council even declared the aforementioned date “Earth, Wind & Fire Day” in 2019.
