“Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” by Bizarrap & Shakira

Add Shakira’s name to the list of songstresses who have decided to translate their personal love lives directly into the pop arena. Up until mid-2022, she had seriously been involved with Gerard Piqué – a star football (i.e. soccer) player – for over a decade.

It is understood that Shakira did allude to their breakup in song before, on the video to a track that came out later that year called “Monotonía”. But said breakup wasn’t one of those situations where she and Gerard went about publicly expounding on what drove them apart. However, as it can be gleaned from this track, the gloves are starting to come off.

It appears that what pushed Shakira over the edge is the fact that Piqué got a new shorty, a writer/internet celebrity named Clara Chía Martí.

The true issue that Shakira apparently has with Martí is that she was reportedly having an affair with Piqué while the songstress was still dating him. Actually, it has been put forth that Gerard is akin to a serial cheater. But being that, amongst his conquests, it was Clara Chia he proceeded to formally hook up with after Shakira, it is understandable that she would hold a personal grudge against this lady.

I’m Better than your New Woman!

So in the third verse of this song, which is also the lengthiest, what the vocalist proceeds to put forth is that her ex’s new boo is inferior to herself. Shakira feels that Gerard has downgraded in dating Clara in the aftermath of their breakup. And what’s being implied, reading in between the lines, is that he may have actually dumped Shakira for Chia.

So basically, Marti is being presented here as a home wrecker. Or as the vocalist puts it, she may have “the name of a good person”, but in actuality she is not righteous.

That said, the bulk of the lyrics are actually dedicated to dissing the addressee. For example, in the vocalist’s eyes, him dumping her to get with this inferior babe is indicative of her ex’s overall lack of intelligence.

Indeed the way she sees it, he needs to stop dedicating “so much time” to his physical development and instead ‘work out his brain a bit’ also.

You neglected me but I’m Strong!

Additionally, if this is in fact Gerard Pique she’s singing about, Shakira goes on to present him as being, most simply put, grimy. In other words, despite being his faithful baby momma, the situation reached a point where he began to woefully neglect her.

Perhaps, being a sports star and all, he didn’t think much of the ramifications of treating a lady so. But the vocalist herself is “a she-wolf” and as such is inclined to fight back as opposed to playing the victim.

Or as Shakira puts it in the second verse, “women no longer cry” but instead go about “get(ting) paid”. That’s another way of saying that instead of feeling sorry for herself, being done dirty by the man she loved has inspired the vocalist to grind even harder.

Moreover, Shakira seems very much in tune with her self-worth. In fact the way she perceives it, even Gerard himself isn’t on her level. So now in her eyes, poetic justice has been served in a sense. But how? Simply because Pique is with Clara, someone more in his lane than Shakira, his superior, is.

In Conclusion

It can be ascertained that this is a diss track, with the thesis sentiment revolving around, frankly put, the vocalist making an attempt to humiliate and hurt the feelings of her ex and his new lady. But it also seems that Shakira anticipates Gerard making an attempt to get back with her in the future. So conclusively she is also making him aware that he shouldn’t even waste his time, as now her love for him has transformed into a solid hatred.
