Sir Chloe’s “Michelle” Lyrics Meaning

Sir Chloe lead singer/songwriter Dana Foote is a lesbian. Either that or she is relaying the sentiments of this song from the perspective of a male. That’s because it is obvious that the titular “Michelle”, the addressee of the lyrics, is a romantic interest.

But that is not to say that we are dealing with a love song here. More accurately “Michelle” can be described as a love/hate song. It is clear that the singer has deep, or rather let’s say uncontrollable feelings for Michelle.

For instance, she is hooked on her body, specifically her hips. And even though she obviously doesn’t want “Michelle” around, still when she shows up the vocalist feels powerless but to entertain her.

And such is arguably the primary sentiment of this song – the singer not wanting the addressee around. But apparently she doesn’t have the heart to just ask her to leave.

Moreover, as noted earlier, the addressee is someone she is heavily attracted to – being pleasant to look at shall we say. But, excuse our French, she also comes off as being a bit of a b-tch or more specifically someone who is verbally abusive towards the narrator.  And that would seemingly be why the singer refers to her as “a monster from hell”.

In Conclusion

So this is one of those songs which concludes as it begins. And that is with the singer being caught up in an emotional and to some extent even psychological dilemma.

She has a lady in her life, a lover we can presume, who basically she can’t stand. But at the same time, due largely to said lady’s physical attractiveness, she doesn’t have the heart to tell her so, i.e. end their relationship.

Sir Chloe

Sir Chloe is a rock band who traces their formation back to Bennington College, a school found in the state of Vermont. It was a group that Dana Foote, being a music student, put together for her senior project.

And as of mid-2020, Sir Chloe consists of the following:

  • Dana Foote (vocalist/guitarist)
  • Dana’s brother Palmer Foote (drummer)
  • Teddy O’Mara (guitarist)
  • Teddy’s buddy Austin Holmes (bassist)

Concerning the name of the band, “Chloe” is like an alter ego of Dana Foote (or more specifically a fake name she sometimes gives to strangers). It is also reportedly what her mother considered naming her at birth.

Additionally the songstress has an affinity for a certain ABC television show entitled “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23” (2012-2012). And the main character of that series, as portrayed by Krysten Ritter, is a character named Chloe.

Michelle

Facts about “Michelle”

This track is from the band’s debut album, which is entitled “Party Favors” (2020). The release date of the track was on 11 April 2019, and the label that put the tune out is Terrible Records.

Molly Hawkins directed the official music video to the song, which has been described as being “bloody”.

“Michelle” proceeded to become Sir Chloe’s most-popular tune to date due to the track going viral on TikTok. And it proceeded to also appear on a couple of Spotify song charts.

“Michelle” was written by Dana Foote.  She apparently did so in 2018, which was also the year she and her bandmates recorded it.

Is Dana Foote really a Lesbian?

First off let it be known that, as of the release of “Michelle”, there doesn’t appear to be anything online which Dana Foote exclaims forthrightly ‘I’m a lesbian’ or anything like that.

But once again based on the nature of the aforementioned song, i.e. the fact that she is a female addressing a fellow female romantic interest, fans have been able to piece that together themselves or in the very least conclude that she may be bisexual.

But that being noted, the songstress did confirm that “Michelle” was someone, a female in fact, whom she dated in real life. And as indicated by the lyrics of the song, it was a situation where Dana knew the relationship/partner was toxic yet did not have the wherewithal to walk away from it.
