“Stars” by Simply Red

The most-logical explanation of Simply Red’s “Stars” would be that the vocalist is singing to his romantic interest. The first verse is symbolic of his strong feelings for her. And the second verse is apparently indicative of them having some serious issues relationship. In the bridge especially it is revealed that the addressee has done something which has “hurt” the singer significantly.

Song’s Title

The title is derived from the chorus whereas the singer is telling the addressee that he ‘wants to fall from the stars straight into her arms’. This would obviously be some type of metaphor of endearment. However, it has also been put forth that what the title actually alludes to is the stars featured on the Flag of Europe. Indeed Mick Hucknall is said to even have a tattoo replicating said flag on his body.

But whereas his affinity for the European Community may have influenced this track, based on a surface examination of the lyrics, it is not abundantly clear how so except for the “stars” reference.

It has also been said that some of the lyrics point to Hucknall’s come up. And there are also other theories floating around pertaining to the meaning of “Stars”. But again, the general understanding is that this is a song based on a romance the singer is in.

His partner – who considering what has been theorized above may well be symbolic of some type of idea or experience – has hurt him and vice versa. However, it is pretty obvious that he still cares for her very deeply.

“I wanna fall from the stars
Straight into your arms?
I, I feel you, yeah
I hope you comprehend”
