“Summer Nights” by Hazel English
This piece (“Summer Nights”) is pretty unique as far as romantic songs go, as what we’re actually dealing with in this case is puppy love. In other words, the vocalist and addressee appear to be romantically involved alright. But the situation reads such that they’ve barely gotten past first base. Indeed, Hazel is growing “crazy” with anticipation of her loverboy eventually making a true, definitive move. But in the meantime, based on English’s own explanation of this track, the thesis sentiment revolves around relishing the thrill of the hunt if you will, i.e. the crush phase of a relationship being exhilarating in and of itself.

Who is Hazel English?
Hazel is a singer and songwriter from Australia, who is also the lead singer of a band that operates under the same name. Being 31 years old as of the release of “Summer Nights”, she is a relative newbie to the industry. She only has one studio album under her belt at the time, that being 2020’s “Wake Up!”.
When was “Summer Nights” released?
Hazel officially launched this song on the 21st of April 2022. It was released together with a Colin Jones directed music video. “Summer Nights” is the title track to Hazel’s third EP.
This song is actually Hazel’s first original material since 2017’s “Just Give In/Never Going Home”. In May of 2021, she released a cover of the Mamas and the Papas’ iconic song, “California Dreamin“.
Did Hazel English write “Summer Nights”?
Yes. Apparently, Hazel composed this song alongside Jackson Phillips of the indie rock band Day Wave. The pair also worked together to produce the entirety of the “Summer Nights” EP.
On working with Jackson, Hazels stated that she and him have a very good working relationship that is also fun. This isn’t the first time Hazel is collaborating with Jackson. The two have a very long and rich history of working together. One of their most notable collaborations was covering Interpol’s 2002 hit song, “PDA”.
Who is the man playing Hazel’s love interest in the video?
He is an American writer and poet named Joseph Matick.
