“Together We Are Beautiful” by Fern Kinney

“Together We Are Beautiful” is a love song in which the singer is celebrating the fact that she is smitten. Or stated otherwise, she has met a man who has edified her entire life.  Indeed she acknowledges that she is not the prettiest girl, nor is he the most-attractive guy. But “together”, as a couple, they “are beautiful”. This is a metaphor implying that she is completely satisfied in this relationship. And the bond that they share is such that she does not feel the need to be with anyone else. Also she is under the impression that this particular romance is so special that the entire world is able to perceive the ‘beauty’ of she and the addressee as a pair.

“Together We Are Beautiful” Facts

Despite this classic being one of Fern Kinney’s most famous hits, she didn’t pen the song. The writing duty was handled by a singer and songwriter named Ken Leray. Ken subsequently released it in 1977.

Owing to the above, Fern’s version is a bona fide cover. She released her cover in 1979.

Her cover enjoyed success in many countries ranging from South Africa to Ireland. In both of these countries, it was a top-5 hit. On the UK Singles chart, it even performed better by actually topping the chart on March 15th, 1980. It kicked Blondie’s hit single “Atomic” from the enviable spot in question to occupy it.
