“Whoopty” by CJ

It has been noted that by and large CJ’s “Whoopty” sticks the usual popular-rap music tropes of money, sex, violence and drugs. In the latter regard, it may not be drugs per se but more along the lines of weed. So basically, it comes off as your quintessential hip-hop ‘hood anthem. But concerning the track’s title, it has been concluded that it actually serves as a shoutout to a street gang known as the Brims (aka the Hat Gang), which are headquartered in Los Angeles. They are a subdivision of a much-larger criminal grouping, the Bloods, whose reach spans nationwide. And that would be why for instance the cover art to Whoopty features the presence of quite a few red bandanas, as a symbol of allegiance to said organization.
