“80’s Movie” by Nick Carter
This is actually a love song which was inspired by, as Nick Carter described it, a contemporary popular interest in movies from the 1980s. The storyline of the track starts off with the singer appearing as an unhappy loner in a party-like setting. And his depression is quite pronounced, until he comes across the addressee, which reads like a love-at-first-sight type of scenario. And basically he likens their relationship and his vision for it to films from the aforementioned time period. For instance, when the two of them are on the dance floor, he compares it to the classic Patrick Swayze flick “Dirty Dancing” (1987). And overall he expects their romance to be exciting, along with a “happy ending”, just “like an 80’s movie”.
This track was released on December the 18th of 2020. And it is the first new solo music Nick Carter, a member of the popular 1990s’ boy band the Backstreet Boys, has dropped since 2015.
Carter was actually inspired to come out with new tunes after his experiences on a reality TV show called “The Masked Singer”. And he also referred to “80’s Movie” as “the best song (he’s) ever done as a solo artist”.
