“No. 1 Party Anthem” by Arctic Monkeys
The lyrics of “No. 1 Party Anthem” revolve around a specific narrative, highlighted by the vocalist’s interactions with a particular female in a club. Usually when met with such songs, the featured story can be easily summarized in a few words. But this track boasts more exquisite lyricism and detail than your average pretty-girl-in-a-club tune.
What we’re basically met with here is something like a delineation of the type of frustrations dudes commonly go through when pursuing a lady in such a setting. And when you speak of such endeavors, of course at the top of the list is self-doubt, which we will be getting to a bit later.
But further challenges include after initiating contact with the lady, the vocalist not wanting to give her the impression that he’s looking for a serious relationship. And there’s also the allusion to the notion that she’s already there with another guy, or at least the vocalist has some competition in pursuing her, despite the mutual interest displayed. Overall, the lyrics are so descriptive that it’s almost as if Alex Turner wrote the song while standing in a club or perhaps after having gone through this same ordeal himself.
The Title (“No. 1 Party Anthem”)
Finally concerning the title, it has been concluded that it is meant to speak to the vocalist’s aforementioned self-doubt. That is to say that he goes about procrastinating in approaching the apple of his eye, even after he becomes privy to her willingness to talk to him. And that would be why he is feening for the “number one party anthem” to be played. In other words, he has convinced himself that when the DJ spins that song, then he will finally make his move and approach this lady. So it’s almost as if, at the end of the day, if the tune is not played, then the vocalist will blame his lack of resolve on that fact.
When was “No. 1 Party Anthem” released?
This track is from “AM”, Arctic Monkeys’ fifth studio album, as backed by Domino Records. And “No. 1 Party Anthem” was officially released on 6 September 2013.
This particular track was not issued as a single from the highly-successful “AM”. But by the looks of things, it is a fan favorite.
