“I’m Fine” by McFly

The title of this song (“I’m Fine”) is sarcastic, because what the lyrics actually revolve around is the singer more or less lambasting the addressee for being a toxic romantic painter. As implied, she is the type who regularly and effectively disses him verbally. And as also strongly insinuated, Dougie Poynter is in love nonetheless.

So when you combine those two factors, what we are met with a singer who is very much upset and hurt even due to the way his sweetheart treats him. Poynter’s melancholy is exacerbated by the fact that the rest of his friends, in contrast to his own situation, “are all settled and doing just fine”, i.e. in idyllic romantic relationships. But as for him personally, despite being able to recognize that the addressee is negatively contributing to his happiness, as implied in the chorus the vocalist is too attached to her to walk away.

“Do you wanna see me sad and out of my mind?
All my friends are all settled and doing just fine
Do you wanna make me mad and hating on you?
Wish I could tell the truth, wish I could say f–k you”
