“Shine On” by McFly

What these lyrics apparently represent is the vocalist’s resolution not to let the negativity or soullessness that surrounds him dampen his spirit. Tom Fletcher understands that he too is “trapped in a world” in which most residents generally fail to achieve a true sense of freedom and gratification. But despite that reality, he is espousing the practice of ‘letting love shine on’.

What doing so entails, as delineated in the bridge, is ‘learning how to appreciate’ one another and ‘stopping the hate’. And as implied, being able to effectively adopt such practices, i.e. propagating love, would also lend to a higher sense of personal freedom and courage.

“But I
Let love shine on
Let love shine on
Trapped in a world where your dreams aren’t worth
And your fears outshine the feeling that you wanna be free
So be anything you wanna be
Let love shine on”
