Awolnation

Awolnation is a rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California circa 2009. As of the year 2020, the only original member who is still in the group is its lead singer, Aaron Bruno. And he is joined by drummer Isaac Carpenter (since 2014), guitarist Zach Irons (2015), keyboardist Daniel Saslow (2016) and bassist Josh Moreau (2020).

The biggest hit of the first 10 years of Awolnation’s existence was actually their first single overall. That would be a 2011 track called “Sail“. This particular song has sold in excess of 6,000,000 copies in the United States, and it has also been certified multi-platinum in Canada and Sweden.

Awolnation also released four album between 2011 and 2020.  And again their debut effort, “Megalithic Symphony”, sold better than the others. However, their second and third studio albums, respectively entitled “Run” (2015) and “Here Comes the Runts” (2018), charted higher overall.

As far as the name of the band, that can also be traced back to its founder, Aaron Bruno.  During his high school he had a tendency to “leave without saying goodbye”. And the term AWOL of course is a popular acronym (derived from the military) which spells out absent without leave.
